Often when
I meet people from my everyday life I come a cross two types of personality:
the doers and the thinkers. I find that the doers just get on with things
such as putting their ideas into practice and often only tell you when they
are done. Whereas the thinkers are always going to do something.
Sometimes
they talk about quite major plans such as starting a business or starting on
a lucrative business venture and they talk about it with great gusto at the
time. But the plans never materialize. Why does this happen? Why does the
doer just do it and the thinker just think about it? The answer is that
they both use different portions of their brains to run their lives.
Let me elaborate!
The doer
is a subconscious mind thinker who trusts their inner wisdom as a guide
where as the thinker is a conscious mind thinker who goes with the analysis
of the conscious mind instead. The doer trusts his or her wisdom and
understands that analysis upon analysis will only confuse the issue so it is
bypassed. This doesn’t mean that the doer just does things without thinking
it just means he/she does not over think the issue with conscious mind
chatter but rather trusts their inner “knowing” to guide them to the best
course of action.
The
thinker on the other hand thinks of an idea and gets excited at first making
major plans for it but the more they think about it (while gathering
ridiculous amounts of information) the doubts creep in. The more they doubt
the more they think and the more information they need until the mind is so
full that the idea then seems impossible. Every worst case scenario rears
its ugly head!
I know
people who are always on crest of the next big thing happening and it rarely
comes to anything. Then they suddenly disappear not to be seen for another
six months until they buy another personal development tape series or
something and start the bandwagon again.
The
problem with the thinker is that the conscious mind in which they are
analysing with is not designed for wise thinking but only quick thinking.
Therefore the conscious mind can go too deep into analysis and needing too
much information, which then confuses them.
I have a
friend who is like this. This person has a vast archive of personal
development material, more than I have ever seen. He must have every tape
set of every self-help guru from the last 80 years! Yet he still buys more,
every week he will order a new book or tape set convincing himself that they
hold the answers and that every bit of information is taking him towards the
pot of gold.
The problem with this philosophy is that there gets a point where there is
always another tape set to buy so putting things off yet again. How much
information do you need? Sometimes you just have to go for it and say what
the hell! If something doesn’t work out as long as you tried you best and
you did what you thought was the right thing to do so what. Too much
information can cause self-doubt. Be a doer and not a thinker!
To read about banishing self-doubt read the

of Life on this site. So then which are you a doer or a thinker?
