        There’s no such thing as Stress?

 

It’s a funny thing some people say there’s no such thing and others swear that they are ruled by it. Lets look at the facts then.

People say that with every thing we have to do these days is it any wonder we feel stressed.

Steve’s Answer: Was it any different years ago? Were people just lounging around 50, 100 or even 1000 years ago?  I think not. The truth was that life was very difficult years ago where you were lucky if you lived beyond forty. Most people live over seventy-five years of age now. Look at the level of health care we have right now compared to back then. Isn’t life a lot easier now than over a hundred years ago? Most of our work today is more mental rather than manual.

 

People say it’s the fast pace of technology that’s causing so much stress.

Steve’s answer: Isn’t technology taking the hard work off us? Isn’t it the case that technology is doing the work that we used to have to do? Wasn’t it harder to wash your clothes in a stream rather than having a machine to wash and dry them for you? Don’t you just put some bread in a toaster if you want a meal rather than have to start a fire and then cook it over a spit? Didn’t you have to walk miles just to deliver a letter back then and now all you have to do is email it and it will be there in seconds?

 

People are working harder these days

Steve’s answer: Really, try working for 12 hours a day down a pit then walking 5 miles home or building a pyramid in the mid day sun in Egypt. Death at work was common years ago. Look at how many people died building the Hoover dam. Aren’t we getting more holidays, sick pay and flexi time jobs these days?

 

We haven’t got time any more to do anything.

Was there ever a time when everything always got done? Is it not the case that more people join health clubs and take holidays abroad now than ever before. Holidays abroad were once perks for the rich only but we now go abroad like it’s the norm and think nothing of it. Think of the people you know who have boats go fishing or other leisure activities that wouldn’t have been possible years ago. Think of satellite TV it was invented because people have more free time. If we didn’t no body would want it.

 

There’s too much to take in these days.

Scientists reckon that we only use around 10% of our brains as it is so what is the other 90% doing? Our brains are hardly used compared to what they can do.

 

The truth about stress.

The truth is that all of our stress is caused by our own thinking. If you believe all of the above to be true you will create stress in your life. Hopefully my counter arguments have helped to make you think about stress differently. You see stress is caused not so much by the events in our lives (although sometimes it is) but in most cases it is because of the way of thinking we have gotten in to.

 

I am never failed to be amazed at the difference some clients show a week after seeing me and getting a different perspective. Some even say “I’ve had a really easy week at work” after therapy. The truth is that work has been the same but their thinking has changed from the hectic to the balanced again.

 

You need to know how to balance your thinking so that the chatter doesn’t take over and make YOU stressed!
